The LG G Pad 8.3 will be here soon. We’ve heard rumors about it, LG released a teaser video for it, and now we are getting a look at the new tablet courtesy of the Korean tech blog MovePlayer.
These images show the G Pad 8.3 side-by-side with the LG G2, giving us a very good size comparison. The other interesting thing is that the G Pad looks just like the G2. The tablet could be a G2, just blown up to accommodate an 8.3 inch screen. The G Pad has a very similar design to the G2. The speakers are on top and the chassis is smooth, curved rectangle. The horizontal bezels are very small, just like on the G2. It looks like the power button is on the right edge, so that is different from the positioning of the buttons on the G2.
MovePlayer also says that the LG G Pad 8.3 will have a 1920 x 1200 Full HD display and that it will be debuted at IFA 2013 next week in Berlin, Germany. This will be the first LG tablet to be released since 2011, when the Korean company brought us the Optimus Pad running Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
LG has been conspicuously missing from the tablet market. Since the launch of the Nexus 4 last year, the company has been pushing to get back in to consumers’ pockets. With a big focus on quality control, LG has improved their product offerings. With the LG Optimus G Pro and the recently announced LG G2, things are beginning to look up for them. The LG G2 is available on all four major U.S. carriers and will be sold all over the world. They obviously feel that now is the right time to step back in to the tablet market. The G Pad 8.3 is an attempt to get consumers’ attention with a device that is a somewhat unconventional size. There are a plethora of 7 inch and 10 inch Android tablets available, but very few 8 inch tablets. Samsung has the Galaxy Note 8.0, and now LG will follow in those footsteps with the G Pad 8.3. We wouldn’t be surprised to see other tablets in the G Pad line make their way to market in the coming months.
