A week ago, Samsung introduce a new flipper called the Hennessy, and we were all thinking this is pure heresy, a flip-phone in 2013! Now we find out that Samsung is offering yet another flip-phone, one they say is more “premium oriented,” called the Galaxy Golden and it sounds like they are also targeting those users in their “golden” years.
The Galaxy Golden specifications are slightly better than the Samsung Hennessy we reported on last week. Here is a comparison chart to show the upgrades, based on the specs given at the Samsung website:
Samsung Hennessy
- Two 3.3-inch 320—480 touch screens
- 1.2 Ghz Quad-Core CPU
- 1GB of RAM
- microSD card slot
- 5 Megapixel rear-facing camera
- Android 4.1 with TouchWiz
- 1,5000 mAh Battery
Samsung Galaxy Golden
- Two 3.7-inch 320—480 touch screens
- 1.7 Ghz Dual-Core CPU
- 8 Megapixel rear-facing camera
- Android 4.2 with TouchWiz
The Galaxy Golden has a slightly larger display, a faster processor, but only dual-core, the camera jumps to 8MP and the OS jumps to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. No other specs are available at this time.
The Galaxy Golden is geared toward the older or more timid user…Samsung claims it is easy to use with the screen-optimized set in “Easy Mode.” It also functions as a pedometer and includes “S Health” to monitor healthcare and weight management. It utilizes a “business card recognition” software to place the information from a business card into your contacts and even comes with an FM radio.
Samsung obviously thinks the flip-phone, or clamshell, is here to stay. I am very curious to see how many of these phones will sell overseas and if Samsung will try to bring one to the U.S. I know I will get “stoned” for say this, but I think it would be a great idea – I know many people, my wife included, that would love a modernized flip-phone. How do you feel about a Samsung flip coming to the U.S., do you know anybody, like Mom or Dad, that might love a phone like this?
