This is a strange piece of news to pop-up. Apparently, AT&T is getting ready to launch the Galaxy S III Mini on their network. That’s right, not the Galaxy S4 Mini but rather the near year-old smaller sibling of Samsung’s flagship for 2012. According to yet another leak from @evleaks, the device has been outed with the signature AT&T logo adorning the rear of the device. Other than that, the device looks very much like the Galaxy S III Mini that launched internationally last year.
The device is apparently carrying the codename of “Golden” and a model number of SM-G730A. There’s no word on availability or pricing just yet but, we can’t imagine that AT&T want to yet any longer on this little guy. Pricing wise, we should expect this to become the cheapest Galaxy S smartphone to have ever graced Ma Bell’s network.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Galaxy S III Mini, it’s essentially what the Galaxy S4 Mini is but, older. The Galaxy S III Mini is a 4-inch device with a dual-core 1 Ghz CPU, 1GB of RAM and a display resolution of 480 x 800. Sure, that’s nothing to write home about but, Samsung did launch this with pretty much the same software experience as the Galaxy S III so, if you’re looking for Samsung’s best on a budget, this might not be too bad an option.
It’s interesting to see that they’ve gone with the Galaxy S III Mini and the S4 Mini as well, seeing as the S4 Mini has been on shelves for months now and is a considerably better device than this little guy here. Needless to say, there’s a possibility that this is a non-final render and that AT&T is actually going to be launching the S4 Mini but, @evleaks hasn’t been wrong on things like this for a while now.
The question is, will AT&T be able to sell many of these? Sure, there’s a market out there for “premium” budget devices like this but, with a year-old brand attached to it, we can’t see this flying off of shelves. What about you?
