The Direct Word From Samsung – The Galaxy Gear Will Not Have a Flexible Display

It is no secret that Samsung will be officially announcing the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Gear on September 4 in Berlin, two days ahead of the Official IFA Consumer Electronics Fair. What we did not know is whether the “new wearable device concept” would have the long rumored and awaited flexible display. It looks like we will have to wait a little longer before Samsung uses their flexible display on a consumer project.

In an exclusive interview with The Korean Times, Lee Young-hee, Executive Vice President of Samsung’s Mobile Business said:

We will be Introducing a New Wearable Device concept called Galaxy Gear at Our Own Event in Berlin on Sept. 4. The smartwatch Product Samsung has been preparing for a Long time. The Gear will not have a flexible display. The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways. It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are Confident that The Gear Will add Meaningful Momentum to The Mobile industry.

Targeted at “Young Trend” setters, this first rendition sounds like exactly that, a first try so to speak, because when asked if Samsung intends to release a device with a flexible display, Lee said the company is working on more advance concepts for future release. He said:

We have Intellectual Properties for patents Related to The next Wearable Devices. Those are Concepts for Future Products.

As the smartphone market becomes more saturated, Samsung is looking for other ways to innovate, and the smartwatch, or wearable device, is their next attempt to get the upper hand on rivals, Apple, Sony, LG, and Microsoft by launching their Samsung Galaxy Gear ahead of their competition. Hopefully, it is a very useful device and not rushed out the door too quickly just to the first one.

Are you still interest in the Galaxy Gear even though it will not sport the flexible display.
