'The New PadFone Infinity' Coming with a Snapdragon 800?

Earlier this year, ASUS announced the ASUS PadFone Infinity which has a Snapdragon 600 processor inside. Now there are rumors of the new PadFone Infinity which is the A86, these rumors go back as far as July 20th, with benchmarks showing a powerful Snapdragon 800 processor inside. So I guess ASUS’ marriage with NVIDIA and their Tegra chips are over.

The exact details of the device are not yet, some PadFone fans have noticed that the new PadFone has shown up on the ASUS Tech Support page: “The new PadFone Infinity”. We’re assuming it’s more of an official name and not just a placeholder. Especially since it seems like everyone just puts “new” in front of the last generations name. Like the new iPad, the new Nexus 7, etc.

Right now the Snapdragon 800 from Qualcomm is the most powerful chip out there, and we’re seeing it in more and more devices. It’s in the LG G2, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, and rumored to be in the Galaxy Note 3. We could be seeing this new PadFone next week at IFA, but then again it might wait until CES in January. Since ASUS did just announce the PadFone Infinity back in May.

So far IFA seems to be gearing up to be an exciting event this year. Normally, IFA is a dud, like CES was earlier this year. But we have events from Samsung, Sony and Lenovo on September 4th and 5th which have some great devices to show off. As always, you can count on Android Headlines to cover IFA inside and out. So make sure you keep it locked here from September 4th to the 11th. While the PadFone won’t make it over to the US, unless you import it, it’s still a very popular device elsewhere. The PadFone is the exact opposite of what the US carriers want. It’s a tablet and phone in one, which means one data connection. Carriers want to sell you as many data connections as they can. With the PadFone they can’t, unfortunately. I wish this would change though, I’d love devices like the PadFone.
