The LG G2 was announced yesterday, and with its 5.2-inch 1080p screen and suite of software functions, it’s a fantastic phone. If the G2 isn’t quite what you’re looking for, there are more great Android devices on the horizon. The Sony Honami is one of them.
The Sony Honami is rumored to have a 20 megapixel rear camera and record video in full 4K resolution. I mean, that’s absolutely insane. We recently got a look at the Honami, courtesy of a YouTube video posted by Ashton Tekno. The 12 minute video is of a custom ROM based on the Sony Honami firmware. It’s running on an Xperia Z. While this isn’t actual Honami hardware, it does give us a sneak peek at what is coming. The video shows us some of the new smartphone’s features, including in-call recording for incoming and outgoing calls and an equalizer so you can set sound levels during phone calls. Take a look:
The call recording may not make it to every market in the world, as there may be legal issues in some countries with recording phone calls. But these features are not found in most current software, whether it’s from Samsung or HTC or Motorola. Sony is doing something unique with the Honami. That is something that we like to see.
The Sony Honami is still just a rumored device. It is supposed to be announced at IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany. IFA takes place September 5th-9th. The Honami’s rumored specs look great. This will be Sony’s most powerful phone yet.
- 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor
- 5-inch Full HD 1080p display
- 20-megapixel camera with 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS sensor
- 2-megapixel front-facing camera

If you own a Sony Xperia Z, you can track down this custom ROM and give it a try yourself. As always, be careful. You are responsible for what you do to your own device. The Sony Honami camera app is available online too, if you just want a small taste. But if you’re interested in testing out the full software suite and sampling Sony’s updated UI and all the Honami apps, you can.
What do you think? Is the Sony Honami the device that you are saving your money for?
