Want a Wooden Moto X? It Might be an Additional $50

How many of you want a customized Moto X? Are you yearning for a wooden back on your Moto X? Well we know that it’ll eventually be available for the Moto X. And it’ll be in Teak, Bambo, Ebony and Rosewood around Q4 of this year. Most of the MotoMaker process is completely free to users, aside from paying $199/249 for the device on contract. But if the current software for MotoMaker gives us any hints, we might be seeing wood costing an additional $50.

There’s a pricing breakdown shown down below, which is currently on Motorola’s site. You’ll see that the pricing structure for the phones listed starts at $199. It also includes price points of $249 and $299. The off contract prices also show $579, $629 and $679. We already know that the 16GB version is $199 on-contract and about $579 off-contract (but still locked to AT&T). So what are the additional price points? The $299 on contract and $670 off.

If you continue down into the options sections you’ll see items like Mint or Olive or Cement listed with a price of “0”. But if you continue looking for the wood options, you’ll see it listed with a price of “50”. Of course this is only listed next to all of the wood options. That includes Teak, Bambo, Ebony and Rosewood. So it looks like all of the wood versions are going to be $50 more than the normal Moto X.

We all know that the Moto X is more expensive because it’s being assembled here in the US. Which makes it more expensive than if it were assembled in China or somewhere else in Asia. But why are we seeing $50 more for wood than the typical plastic back? Could it be that wood cost more than plastic? Either way, I’d probably still opt for wood. It just looks so great on the back of that phone.

Remember, that this is not confirmation of the wood version costing $249/299 on contract. But it’s looking very likely. We’ll be sure to keep our eyes on it and see what happens.
