We announced just about a month ago that the new Motorola Droid MAXX was available to purchase from Verizon, and today, for all you techies out there, we have even better news – the Droid MAXX Developer Edition, with an unlockable bootloader, is now available for $649.99. We just reported earlier today that the Moto X Developer Edition was available, and before we can blink an eye, the MAXX Developer Edition appears for the same price. It will be interesting to see how many of the Developer Editions will actually sell, although they are never intended to be a big seller, but they do allow the bootlockers to easily be removed when companies like Verizon and AT&T refuse that access to their customers.
There is really no difference between the Motorola Droid Maxx and the Developer Edition except that the bootlocker is unlockable and there is no warranty since the Developer Edition is meant to be “played” with, so Motorola will offer you no guarantees! But that’s what the Developer Edition is all about, fun with no bootlocker. The price is decent as well when you realize that the Moto X with lesser specifications, certainly in battery department, is the same price and, that this is the normal off-contract price for the regular Droid MAXX from Verizon as well.
The Droid series has always been a Verizon exclusive, and this year Motorola delivered two new Droid updates, the Droid MAXX and Droid Ultra, and one new model, the Droid Mini to their popular series. The Droid Ultra model is designed with a smaller battery, but “ultra” slim body, at just .28-inches, making it the slimmest 4G LTE smartphone available. The Droid Mini is Motorola’s attempt to give us a Droid in a Mini format. The Droid MAXX is all about power with a 3500mAh battery and up to 48 hours of usage.
