One of the better features to finally be introduced to Android is the native capability to screen record your activities, which was introduced with Android 4.4. The catch here is that to take advantage of this, it has to be in one of two ways. If you are running a stock and unrooted version of Android 4.4 kit kat, you can only take advantage of the native screen recording feature via an ADB command. Not everyone is keen on how to do this. The other option at this point is utilizing one of the apps that are available that do the screencasting for you, and there are a few of them. however they all require that your phone is rooted before the app will work. The newest of the bunch comes from developer SPECTRL, and is called Rec. Although there are other options out there that you can use like Cyanogenmod’s ScreenCast app, and the similar Mirror App from koush and the Clockworkmod team, Rec. seems to give you quite a few more options in terms of functionality and features.
For starters, you can change up the bitrate of your recording, allowing different quality of your videos. You can also record videos for up to one hour, which is great for those of you who might be doing any sort of tutorial videos through this app. You can also automatically show screen touches, which just displays the point on your screen where you have touched and interacted with it, inside the video. Probably one of the better features of Rec. is the countdown timer, giving you ten seconds to get to where it is you want to be when the recording starts. This will ultimately allow the ability to make sure your recordings are as perfect as possible by being able to start them off from the exact point that you want.
Most of the features listed here are only available with the paid version of Rec., which if purchased during the introductory sale will only cost $1.59.
