Another day, another Nokia X (Normandy) leaked picture, and while these are actual photographs, I sure wish these “spies” could get some better equipment so we could see some nice, crisp, photos. These shots are courtesy from a French website called NWE (No Where Else), also claims that Nokia will unveil the “X” at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) on February 24.
According to their source the Nokia X, which was also called the Normandy, comes with WVGA, 4-inch display of 800 x 480 resolution, a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, with only 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, but is expandable with a microSD card. The camera is of the 5MP variety and a 1,500mAh battery powers the device and it will be available in six different colors. According our very reliable @evleaks, the processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon, and although no model number is given, it is probably the S4.
It will run a modified/customized version of Android 4.4 KitKat to take advantage of the low-end requirements of the new OS – the processor and RAM of the Nokia X should perform well on KitKat. However, why Nokia is bothering with this device is still a mystery…it certainly is not a device that would sell well in the U.S. and is no where nearly as refined as the Moto G. From the screenshots we have seen, the user interface (UI) that Nokia has slapped over Android, looks very similar to the Windows Phone – so why not just use Windows. Again, our only conclusion is that coupled with the hardware, Android 4.4 KitKat simply allows the device to run better, and let us not forget the Google Play Store in this decision – by using Android, Nokia opens the door on all of its available apps, something that the Windows Phone platform is lacking. It will also be interesting to see how this all works out when the Microsoft-Nokia deal is finalized very shortly.
