While everyone is causing a hubbub over the Galaxy S5, it’s easy to forget that there are still a number of people who are waiting for their Galaxy S4s to be updated. If you’re on AT&T’s network, we’re talking about you, and we’ve got good news: the carrier has announced that it will begin rolling out its Android 4.4.2 OTA update for the Galaxy S4 tomorrow. This news is accompanied by a changelog posted to AT&T’s website, though we have to admit that the new features list is looking a little thin. First up is the fact that this update brings Android 4.4 KitKat to AT&T Galaxy S4s (which is obvious). AT&T also says that this update adds Galaxy Gear compatibility, so if you happen to own Samsung’s smartwatch, you’ll be sitting pretty once this update is applied. The ability to drag and drop to uninstall or disable apps has been added with this round of OTAs, and AT&T says that call reliability should be improved as well.
Not a bad list of new features, if not somewhat short. You’ve essentially got two choices once the update becomes available: you can either wait to be automatically prompted to download and apply the update, or you can download it manually. While most will wait for the automatic prompt, getting it to actually show up can take some time, so those impatient folks among us will want to navigate to the “Software Update” option in the “About Phone” menu to initiate the download manually. Though AT&T says this update won’t impact settings or data, it still recommends that you back up your data prior to applying the update, advice that is generally a good idea to follow.
So, there you have it. There isn’t much longer before you Galaxy S4 users on AT&T’s network will have Android 4.4.2 at your fingertips.
