We don’t yet know whether or not Samsung is going to announce the Galaxy S5 come Monday the 24th during MWC, but all signs are pointing to a pretty big “yes”. Samsung is once again doing some teasing on their Samsung Tomorrow website and this time around, it’s yet another peak at the new design that seems to be hitting Samsung devices. Samsung have released a teaser for their upcoming Unpacked 5 even and they’ve shown of nine new icons with it. All of them look to be taken right from the Galaxy S5 – or perhaps some other device? – and they also seem to give away a little something concerning the device itself.
Icons such as Fun, Privacy, Fitness, Life and Social would suggest more hub-like apps that bring everything together, as oppose to the scattered apps that we’ve seen from Samsung in the past. other app names such as Privacy and Speed however, suggest something a little different. Speed is in fact a curious one, could it be controlling the speed of your device, in order to conserve battery? Check how fast your network is running or something else entirely? Who knows, but it’s certainly interesting to see. Privacy is perhaps some more setting on top of the security improvements seen in Android 4.3 and Android 4.4.
There’s not much longer to wait and see just what Samsung has in store for us later this month, and it’s beginning to look like Samsung is pretty proud of what they have to offer. TouchWiz fans and those that are unconvinced are all looking forward to this new style when it comes to Samsung’s software. Regardless of how you feel about Samsung’s software, it’s difficult to deny that it’s changed much at all since the Galaxy S III’s launch in 2012 and while there’s nothing wrong with sticking with something for a long time, a company like Samsung will need to freshen things up in the face of competition. UI design is moving away from natural influences like the Galaxy S III to more digital and minimal interfaces, take iOS 7 and of course Android 4.4 KitKat for examples, we’re moving towards a more digital look and feel and it looks as if Samsung is finally embracing that with their lineup for 2014.
