If you’re running the beta version of SwiftKey version 4.5 – which landed back in December and brought support for emoji along with it – then you might like to know that an update for the beta recently went live. The update brings a relatively short list of changes and a longer list of bug fixes, with arguably the most important change being the new “recently used” tab for emoji. This obviously means that if you’ve got a certain number of emoji you like to use on a regular basis, you’ll be able to find and use them quickly in the future.
SwiftKey’s changelog also says that the smart emoji layout will now automatically re-size itself depending on the amount of screen space you’ve got, and that the missing emoji from the first emoji tab have been restored. Also of note is the fact that Twitter personalization has been updated to go along with the recent update to Twitter’s API.
There are various bug fixes coming along with this most recent patch, and the folks at SwiftKey have been nice enough to lay them all out in the blog post announcing the update. They say the dark theme has made a return, and one fix in particular means that users can now insert emoji into Instagram posts, with SwiftKey saying that the Instagram issues were frequently brought up by beta testers. Users on 7-inch devices will now have a split landscape numpad at their disposal, while there are new layout improvements to look forward to across all languages. For all of the changes and fixes, there’s still at least one rogue issue out there: SwiftKey says that it’s “still not always possible to insert a new line in some apps,” so for those struggling with that problem, you’ve still got a little while to wait before it’s solved.
If you’re not running SwiftKey version 4.5 beta but would like to join in on the action, it’s important to note that you won’t find the update in the Google Play Store. The beta will have to be side-loaded onto your device, and you can find the download by hitting the source link at the end of this post. Have you been participating in the beta?
