If there’s one thing we love, it’s when carriers give us more, without asking for more money. Which is what AT&T has done with their new GoPhone plans. They have added more data and tethering to their plans without increasing prices. Which is an amazing thing. It’s apparent that AT&T is going after T-Mobile in the prepaid space now. With them relaunching Cricket Wireless this month – after merging Cricket and Aio together – and now making the GoPhone plans a bit more enticing. Right Now T-Mobile and Sprint – well technically Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile – are the ones owning the prepaid market.
Here’s what AT&T has changed;
“Increased data from 2 to 2.5 GB for $60 a month + enabled Wi-Fi hotspot capability + unlimited talk. Increased data from 250 to 500MB for $40 a month + 500 minutes of talk. New plan (Wal-mart only) with 1GB of data for $45 a month + unlimited talk. WiFi hotspot included”
Not bad when you consider that prices are still the same. By comparison, T-Mobile’s $60 plan does offer 3GB of data, then throttled after that. So you’re getting a bit less data from AT&T on GoPhone, but depending on where you live, the coverage may be worth that extra money. As we know that T-Mobile’s coverage isn’t spectacular everywhere, at least not yet.
Additionally, AT&T has a new plan for basic phones, which includes unlimited talk, text and data for just $45/month. Of course, that’s only for basic phones and you won’t be able to use it on smartphones, unfortunately. It’s great to see the prepaid arena become more competitive. As it’s not what it used to be, which was only for people with bad credit, or couldn’t afford a contract. But it’s for anyone really. Most people that have a Nexus, are using it on Prepaid and there’s nothing wrong with that.
