Google has given a little taste of their new Android software called Android L-for now. The new Android version has many different new designs integrated inside. In fact, it was even said that Android L may be the biggest Android software update ever released. Even though the update may be the biggest update, it’s made up of the little things, like the typography. On Andorid they use a font called Roboto, Android L brings a new version of Roboto. Which is can now be downloaded to your device.
The new design of Android L was a big part of the Keynote at Google I/O. Google introduced us to Material Design. Material design brings a more realistic 3D feel to the way Android is seen. Since they have decided to update everything down to the shadows made by Google cards, they had to update Roboto. According to Google, the new update to the font has been, “refined extensively to work across the wider set of supported platforms. It is slightly wider and rounder, giving it greater clarity and making it more optimistic.”
Given that one of the goals is to make the font adapt more seamlessly across multiple platforms, it’s likely that we’ll be seeing this font just about everywhere. Smart Watches, smartphones, tablets and maybe even Android TV will all use this new font. Though the new font and all the other features won’t be available to devices until later this year, you can download the new Roboto font right here.
The Roboto font is aimed at making user experiences easier and consistent. Although only time will tell if the font has such a big impact on how users feel about the overall Android experience. In the meantime, you can see how you feel about the new Roboto font by simply downloading it from below. After giving it a spin for a bit, let us know what your thoughts are.
