Gameloft is well known for developing games on Android. They have even developed award winning games like Despicable Me: Minion Rush, and Asphalt 8: Airborne. While Android aims to give the same experience across multiple devices, including your television, Gameloft aims to do the same with Android games. They have announced a list of 9 games that are optimized for your television.
Android TV has been announced at Google I/O, and we all got a glimpse of what’s to come. Android is aiming to make things similar across all platforms from smartphones to tablets to smart watches. However, when it comes to the television, Android wants to utilize this screen in a similar yet different way. They realize that we watch our television differently, and so wouldn’t want the exact same user interface (UI). Instead, they want to make Android TV have very accessible content, but only the content we would want on a television. That means movies, shows, music and of course, games. Though when it comes to games, developers need to keep the screen size in mind.
Our televisions are vastly bigger than any tablet we may own, this difference in size could easily cause issues for graphics. This is the reason that game developers will need to rework their apps and make them visually as stunning on our television as they are on our smartphones and tablets. Gameloft says they were already prepared for this, and have a total of 9 games that are optimized for our televisions. Baudouin Corman, Vp of Publishing for the Americas for Gameloft said, “We’ve worked closely with Google to enhance the quality of several of our best games for Android TV, bringing a very exciting game play experience to life on the big screen.” The games they have prepared for Android TV are as follows: Asphalt 8: Airborne, Despicable Me: Minion Rush, GT Racing 2, Dungeon Hunter 4, Ice Age Village, Modern Combat 4, My Little Pony-Friendship is Magic, Wonder Zoo, and World at Arms.
While 9 games is impressive giving that Android TV won’t be ready for public use until this Fall, Gameloft says they aren’t finished yet. Corman said, “Gameloft’s goal is to expand the accessibility and reach of high-quality games, and we are proud to support new innovations coming from our partners that will enhance the gamer experience.” When Android TV is ready for the world, you’ll be able to find any of the Gameloft games on the Play Store.
