Currently, Android TV has only been used by some developers with the Android TV Developer Preview Kit (ADT-1). Later this year, Android TV will surely be owned by many consumers as well. When that happens Netflix wants to make sure they’re ready to support those users. To show that readiness, Netflix has already released their Android TV compatible app to the Google PlayStore.
Netflix is one of the most popular streaming service amongst consumers. With everything including television series, movies and original series like House of Cards and Orange is The New Black, Netflix has a wide variety of things to watch and stream. Currently, users of the Netflix service can view anything on Netflix on almost every screen they have. Using the Netflix website to watch on the computer screen, and using the app to watch on tablets and smartphones. Users can also watch Netflix on their television through gaming consoles, smart televisions and streaming devices like Chromecast. Later this year, Netflix will also be viewable through Google’s new Android TV.
Android TV is Google’s new television OS that will be available to consumers through either an integrated television, or a set top box. The idea is to combine online media, with cable television in one singular place-the TV. This means you’ll have access to all of your media, and that will include Netflix.
The Netflix app on Android TV has everything consumers already know and love from ratings, to multiple user accounts. Using multiple user accounts on Netflix is one of the best parts of the app, so surely many people will be glad to see that option here as well. User accounts allow different users to rate shows and movies and get suggestions based on those ratings. It also allows users to create “Watch lists” so that you can save and easily find something to watch later. What’s different for Android TV is the way the app can be controlled. Simply control the app by remote (which will come with the Android TV integrated devices or televisions), or you can use an Android TV Controller app on your smartphone.
Currently, the app is only in beta, and so can only be seen by developers working with the ADT-1. Netflix is doing this beta test to ensure that when Android TV goes live, the app will be ready to go. In the meantime, feel free to download Netflix and enjoy on your smartphones, tablets, computers or streaming devices.
