Back in June we saw Android L get a little preview for the Nexus 5 and 7. However, since the release of the preview, developers have been attempting to port the OS on every device at their disposal. The most recent device to get a taste of Android L is the HTC One (M7).
Android L is the newest version of Android, and while a developer preview has been released, the OS is far from complete. The OS is considered to be in Alpha stages of testing, which means there are bugs galore. The reason behind the developer preview is so that developers can get an idea of how to develop their apps for the next version of Android. Its purpose is to give the look and feel of the OS rather than give people a bug free version of the OS that’s incomplete. For example, the Android L preview running on the HTC One losses the basic functionality of data, the camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and even sound.
Which means this OS is not meant to be run on your device as a permanent solution or even as a mod. Instead, it just gives you a taste of the new OS. None the less, developers over at XDA have developed a version that will work (minus the above functions) on the HTC One (M7). The M7 is last years HTC flagship device that won many awards for build quality and design. The M7 comes with a 4.7-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 600 processor, with 2GB RAM. The M7 is still considered to be one of the best Android-powered devices on the market. Android L-once completed-will be the next Android OS released by Google sometime in the Fall.
Android L has already been called one of the biggest and best updates to come to Android. The OS will more than likely come by a different name, however will still start with the letter L. It’s being praised mostly for the design that it brings to Android. Google is calling it Material Design, and it brings a flat, layered visual to the Android experience. Described as paper layered on top of each other with a shadow feature that gives an almost 3D feel to the entire OS.
The question is, will you be porting over the Android L preview to your HTC One (M7), or will you be waiting until the official release comes from Google and HTC? Keep in mind that HTC has already promised to update the HTC One (M7) to Android L, only three months after Google gives them the update.
