The Droid Turbo is official and it is a beast. All of the specs are pretty much top of the line, including the giant 3900mAh battery. Verizon is claiming that the Droid Turbo is going to last up to 48 hours on a single charge. The flagship smartphone also includes Motorola’s Turbo Charger that will get you 8-hours of usage on a single 15-minute charge. This phone will go and go and keep on going.
Verizon announced the Motorola Droid Turbo this morning at a press event in New York City. It’s a high-end flagship smartphone with a 5.2-inch Quad-HD display. It has 3GB of RAM and a 21-megapixel camera that will shoot video in 4K. The phone is running on a Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.7GHz. The Droid Turbo has a Kevlar back in metallic black, black ballistic nylon, and metallic red. The red Kevlar back looks really slick. The phone will come with 32GB of internal storage. There is also a variant that only comes in black ballistic nylon that will have 64GB of storage. The battery weighs in at 3900mAh, which is bigger than the battery in the Droid Maxx. The Maxx has a 3500mAh battery and was Verizon’s previous workhouse.
The Droid Turbo is essentially a souped-up 2014 Moto X. The screen is the same size and the overall experience is the same. The Turbo is running a slimmed down version of Android that is almost stock, just with Motorola’s apps included. The added Motorola apps like Moto Assist and Moto Display are really helpful. The materials that the phone is made of are different, however. Verizon stuck with Kevlar and ballistic nylon for the back of the device, forgoing the metal frame and leather back that Motorola used on the new Moto X. They want to keep these devices different from the rest of Motorola’s lineup.
The Droid Turbo is one of the best devices that Verizon will offer this autumn. It will sell for $199 on-contract, while the 64GB version will be $249 on-contract. The Turbo will be available on October 30.
