Meizu took the spotlight in China yesterday when the company launched their new flagship, Meizu MX4 Pro. The details of this handset have been leaking like crazy for the past couple of weeks and Meizu finally put an end to all the rumors and leaks. The handset itself is a rather powerful piece of technology, it sports a 5.5-inch 2K display along with 3GB of RAM and 16, 32 or 64GB of internal storage. Samsung’s Exynos 5430 octa-core chipset is powering on this thing along with Mali-T628 MP6 GPU. On the back of this handset you’ll find a 20.7-megapixel camera while there’s a 5-megapixel shooter located on the front of the device. Meizu MX4 Pro resembles the original MX4 a lot, but it is improved in almost every way. More RAM, more powerful processor, bigger and higher-res screen and MX4 Pro has a fingerprint scanner blow the display, something the original MX4 Pro doesn’t have. The biggest selling point for this handset is its price, 16GB model of this handset costs only 2,499 Yuan ($408), which is a bargain for such a handset.
MX4 Pro is the most talked about smartphone in China, but we’re here to talk about something else Meizu might be making soon. Industry analyst, Pan Jiutang, reported recently that Meizu might release a 799 Yuan ($130) smartphone which would sport one of MediaTek’s 64-bit chips and whose purpose would be to compete with Xiaomi Redmi 1S. Well, Meizu’s Vice President, Li Nan, shared his thoughts on this matter. Mr. Nan said that the report is somewhat inaccurate considering the company doesn’t plan to release such a device anytime soon, but he admitted that Meizu might launch a so-called 799 Yuan smartphone sometime in the future. He wants to ensure that such a device can offer a great user experience to consumers before the company decides to make it.
Meizu MX4 and MX4 Pro are rather affordable considering what the offer, but a 799 Yuan smartphone by Meizu would be a nice addition to this Chinese company’s lineup, for sure. It would give them the opportunity to compete in a lower segment of the market and perhaps even take some attention away from Xiaomi’s Redmi 1S which is selling like crazy in that segment.
