Earlier today, during their CES 2015 keynote, LG kicked things off in terms of big mobile news this week with the launch of the G Flex 2. The follow-up to the original flexible device, the G Flex 2 builds on what LG achieved with their groundbreaking original and they’ve managed to create a very good-looking device in the process, too. Our very own Nick Sutrich is roaming the halls of Las Vegas Hotels and conference rooms to bring us all the latest and he’s been lucky enough to spend time with the G Flex 2 in person. In the fetching, Flamenco Red version no less!
As we already knew from today’s announcements, the G Flex 2 is a smart-looking device and in person it looks even better. While a fingerprint magnet for sure, the Flamenco Red is glossy and vibrant to look at. This year the G Flex has shrunk to 5.5-inches down from the original’s 6-inches, but it’s gained a lot of pixels with an upgraded 1080p Full HD Plastic OLED display that looks vibrant, sharp and clear. Sure, this is no Quad HD panel, but thanks to it being an OLED affair there are deep blacks and punchy colors on offer as well as a very respectable Full HD resolution. Very light in the hand, the G Flex 2 feels well built, and this year’s model is more durable than last year’s. Healing light scratches and scuffs in a matter of seconds, rather than minutes.
Under the hood there’s an octa-core Snapdragon 810 running 64-bit Android 5.0 Lollipop along with 2GB of RAM. As you’d expect, this delivers excellent performance, and the software is packed full of features similar to those found on the G3 from last year. Altogether, the G Flex 2 looks to be an excellent all-rounder, building on some of the issues with its predecessor and becoming one of the first devices to offer the Snapdragon 810.
