Among the list of devices and other products Acer has announced today, which has already included an 8-inch tablet with the Iconia One 8 and a new 15-inch Chromebook, they have also unveiled a new 10-inch tablet called the Acer Iconia Tab 10. While the Iconia Tab 10 will be available for consumers to buy later on this year, Acer will also be working with Google to join the Google Education ecosystem and bring an affordable tablet option to the classroom for teachers and students to use. As such, Acer has designed this tablet with use in the classroom in mind and has made it durable enough to withstand the everyday classroom environment, which includes an anti-fingerprint coating on the screen to reduce smudges.
When it comes to specs, the Acer Iconia Tab 10 tablet comes equipped with a 10.1-inch Full HD IPS display, which is protected by Gorilla Glass 4 to help it stand up to whatever the classroom can throw at it. Acer has touted this device as perfect for reading, as students can enter reading mode on the Iconia Tab 10, which helps to lessen the eye strain by reducing the blue light emission by up to 60%. Other specs and hardware include a weight of only 540 grams so it’s still light enough with the big display for kids to carry in a backpack, and it should hold up to 7.5 hours of battery life for those after school sessions. It will come in three different storage size models, with 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of internal storage space. It also comes powered by an Intel Atom quad-core processor with 2GB of DDR3 RAM so it should be able to handle any tasks or apps kids will enjoy, like Google Earth, YouTube Kids, or anything else.
Since a classroom environment might require some use of sharing files between students, the Iconia Tab 10 features NFC so sharing between devices is easy and quick, and the internal storage can be expanded upon with a microSD card if more space is needed for extra files, apps, games, pictures and more. The Iconia Tab 10 also features some of the same software as the Iconia One 8 like EZ Note, EZ Snap, EZ WakeUp and EZ Gadget, and it also features the Acer Precision Plus technology, so it works with the optional stylus making it perfect for writing and sketches during class assignments and lectures. The Acer Iconia Tab 10 will go on sale in the U.S. in May starting at $299, and will be available in the EMEA in the same month starting at €299.
