When it comes to international markets, South Korean giants LG and Samsung often do pretty well throughout much of the globe, but Japan has proven a difficult nut to crack. Samsung has faced serious issues there for some time now, and even removing the Samsung logo from products like the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge doesn’t seem to be helping them. LG, on the other hand, while not a household name when it comes to smartphones just yet, have been doing fairly well. Still, if there’s one thing the Japanese market enjoys, it’s a special edition of well, just about anything. And so, we have the Disney and Swarovski DM-01G, launching on NTT DoCoMo in Japan.
There isn’t a huge heap known about the DM-01G and despite the fact that this has all the LG DNA inside of it, it appears that this is to be more of an NTT DoCoMo phone, than it is to be an LG phone. On the inside, there’s a Snapdragon 801 running the show, along with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and a 13.2-megapixel camera along with a 2.4-megapixel front-facing camera and a 2,920 mAh battery. This is a 5.2-inch display, and we’re presuming that this is a Full HD panel, rather than a Quad HD affair. All signs are pointing to this being a mid-range device with a few niceties, like a processor that should deliver some pretty good performance. Oh, and then there’s the flip cover.
Just like the flip cover from last year’s G3, LG have prepared a smart flip cover that displays information inside of a little window. However, this is no circle with the DM-01G and is instead the Mickey Mouse silhouette that has been a marker of all things Disney for years now. This cutout shows information in a Disney theme and the front cover is adorned with Swarovski crystals, which is where they come in. We really doubt that this is to be released outside of Japan. Considering that Disney is quite popular in Japan, this will surely help LG and NTT DoCoMo shift a good amount of units, and if anything it’s nice to see that there’s still some fun left to be had in the smartphone world.
