We’ve seen all sorts of payment services being released in the last couple of years, and Samsung has decided to give it a try as well. This Korean tech giant has released Samsung Pay during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona back in March. Samsung Pay is actually pre-installed on the company’s flagship handsets which were also unveiled during the event in Barcelona. It was originally said that Samsung Pay will hit the US and South Korea in the summer, while Europe and China were to follow soon after. Well, Samsung has faced some delays, and according to previous report, the service will start rolling out this September.
That being said, the company has started beta testing Samsung Pay in South Korea, at least according to a report from KoreaBizWire.com. According to the source, the testers who have been accepted in the program will test Samsung’s payment service in Samsung Card partner stores between July 15th and August 20th. The beta testers who spend more than $45 during the testing will get 10,000 points from Samsung, while some active users will be rewarded with 50,000 points during a press event. You may wonder, what are these ‘points’ we’re talking about? Well, we still don’t know, the source wasn’t all that clear as far as this goes, it seems like they don’t have additional info either. These are presumably points which will be used for all sorts of discounts via Samsung Pay, that is the most probable scenario here.
There you have it, the beta testing for Samsung Pay has kicked off, and the service will start its rollout this September. In case you don’t know how this thing works, well, it uses the NFC (Near-Field Communication) chip in order to communicate with the compatible registers and charge you for whatever you’re buying. Samsung Pay is also using LoopPay technology called Magnetic Secure Transmission, which makes it backwards compatible. Samsung Pay is a direct competitor to Apple Pay, and it will certainly going to be interesting to see these two tech giants battle it out yet again. Stay tuned for more info, we’ll let you know as soon as something pops up.
