Lots of things happened this past week that would be considered hard to miss for anyone even remotely interested in technology and the tech industry unless you completely shut yourself away from the online world for the last seven days. Most notably was probably Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event that happened this past Thursday where they officially announced and showed off the Galaxy Note 5 as well as the Galaxy S6 Edge+, two new phones which are scheduled to launch on August 21st officially. Samsung also teased an upcoming round smartwatch thought to be the Gear A at the event, although they only showed off some footage of it and very briefly.
Samsung also announced the notorious keyboard case for the Galaxy Note 5 that leaked the week prior, an attachment for those who wish to have a set of physical keys for typing from time to time. The other really big news revolved around Google and happened at the very beginning of the week, as Google CEO Larry Page announced that him and Sergey Brin, the companies co-founder and President, had created a new holding company called Alphabet which will essentially own Google, and all other subsidiaries, making Google one company under the Alphabet umbrella rather than the owners of Nest, Calico, Google X and others. Aside from the major Google and Samsung announcements, both Lenovo and HTC announced sets of layoffs, with Lenovo stating that all future mobile efforts will be handled by Motorola. Just in case you missed any of the biggest details this past week, we have them rounded up for you here.
