Video: Is the Moto G (3rd Gen) Really Waterproof

When Motorola announced the Moto G 3rd-Gen last week, one of the surprising features of the device was the fact that it is waterproof, and rated at IPX7. Which means it can be submerged into about 1 meter of water for around 30 minutes without any damage. This is pretty significant for a few reason. One is that there are no flaps, like the Xperia Z3+/Z4/Z4V and Xperia Z4 Tablet from Sony (unlike their earlier Xperia Z models). The other is that most smartphones in this price range are not durable never mind waterproof or water resistant. So they can take a shower with you, or make it through a walk in the rain, which surprisingly not every smartphone can.

So since the Moto G 2015 or Moto G 3rd Gen is supposedly waterproof, we decided to put that to the test, and dunked the Moto G into a small container of water and see how it performed afterwards. It performed quite well. And it’s not 3 days since we shot that video, and the Moto G 3rd Gen is still working as well as it always had. So no issues here. The Moto G does have a removable back, which means it’s important to be sure that back is on there securely. Or else water can seep in and actually do some damage to your new Moto G. And that’s the last thing that any of us wants to happen.
