When it comes to Android tablets, or any tablet really, it doesn’t matter if it’s not got the world’s fastest processor inside of it, depending on what you need it for. If you’re looking for something to help browse the web, a second display around the living room or just something to take with you get online, Android tablets have been a safe bet for a long time, because they’ve been great value for money. Today, Verizon and Samsung threw their hat into the LTE tablet game with the somewhat uninspiring Galaxy Tab E, a 9.6-inch affair that’s more about overall experience than it is outright specs.
The Galaxy Tab E was announced earlier this year on the sly by Samsung, and features a 1280 x 800 9.6-inch display powered by a quad-core 1.3 Ghz processor with 1.5GB of RAM. The version Verizon is selling comes with features 16GB of expandable storage as well as support for XLTE speeds – where you can find them – right out of the box. It’s running Android 5.1.1 and while it’s not the best tablet out there, the full retail price of $329.99 on Verizon with 4G support isn’t too shabby at all. Speaking of which, there is of course a contract option for $13.74 a month for 24 months which again, is not stellar, but not too shabby.
This sort of tablet isn’t for someone looking to replace a Nexus 9 or something similar, but more for those just looking for a larger display for casual browsing and that sort of thing. With a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 9.6-inch display, this is probably pretty great for browsing the web as it is, but there’s not much more besides casual and light gaming you’d want to do here. If there’s one thing Samsung gets right on all of their devices, it’s the display and a 1280 x 800 resolution isn’t brilliant, but it should be adequate for light use.
