Earlier today, Verizon and Motorola finally unveiled their latest two DROID devices, the DROID Turbo 2 and the DROID Maxx 2. As the names suggest, these are follow-up devices to the previous Turbo and Maxx models, although, in the case of the DROID Maxx, things are a little different this year. When Motorola originally announced their Moto X line of devices they also announced a lower priced Moto X in the form of the Moto X Play. However, along with the announcement, details emerged that the Moto X Play was primarily designed for markets outside of the U.S. and would not be making its way to North America. This seemed strange at first although, things have become clearer now as the DROID Maxx is essentially the Moto X Play but re-branded as a DROID Maxx and only available through Verizon.
That said, nothing should be taken away from the DROID Maxx 2 as one of the big selling features of the Moto X Play over the Moto X Pure/Style was the excellent battery life that was on offer. In spite of a lower price, the Moto X Play came with a bigger better than the Moto X Pure/Style. Well, if you were interested in the Moto X Pure in the U.S., but were not so keen on the battery, then it looks like the DROID Maxx 2 will be the device for you.
As well as coming with a number of notable Moto X Pure design elements and specs, the DROID Maxx has now been confirmed to come sporting a bigger battery than the Moto X Pure. In fact, the battery on offer comes in with a 3,630 mAh rating. According to Verizon and Motorola, this means the DROID Maxx 2 will be capable of offering a two-day level of usage, much like the DROID Turbo 2. However, battery life will only be one aspect which sees improvement over the previous model as Verizon and Motorola have now also explained that the DROID Maxx 2 comes with a much improved level of charging in the form of Turbo Power, which will offer consumers over eight hours of usage with only a quick 15-minute charge. As a result, the DROID Maxx 2 does look to be a device which will appeal to Moto X buyers but with an extended level of battery life and faster charging.
