Samsung is rumored to be working on a big tablet for a while and in the last few months we have seen several leaks revealing most details we want to know about the Galaxy View (SM-T670). When we say “big tablet”, this thing is really huge, sporting an 18.4-inch display. So, if you thought the Galaxy Tab Pro was big enough with its 12.2-inch screen, here it goes. This Wednesday a website from The Netherlands spotted the user manual for the tablet, which seems to have popped up on Samsung’s website by accident, and the leaked images from the document give us a glimpse of what to expect.
Other than its size, the most notable feature is a detachable arching handle on the back that also works both as a dock and a carrying handle, like a briefcase. The hardware goodies include front-facing speakers and camera, and a DC power jack. Since the battery is relatively small, this additional power connector seems to be aimed at a continuous usage with the device plugged in as to not use the internal battery. The manual also mentions that there will be LTE-enabled versions. Samsung has prepared some nice software features too, as the manual has a dedicated TV page revealing that the Galaxy View will connect to newer Samsung Smart TVs via Bluetooth. There’s also a Family Square feature, a way of sharing content with family members on other devices, which is likely to work over Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi.
As for the hardware, if you were expecting a flagship device, this is not the case. Despite having a huge screen, the Galaxy View is likely to come with an octa-core Exynos 7580 processor, the same one powering the low-cost Galaxy J7. There will be 2 GB of RAM, which is not that bad, and 32 GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot. As mentioned before, the battery is relatively small with only 5,700 mAh of juice. As for the display, it will feature a resolution of 1920 x 1080. On a smartphone, it should be good enough, but with an 18.4-inch display, it results in a pixel density of only 120 pixels per inch, so expect a very low image quality overall. Last Monday we had the pricing information leaked and the device will be available at $599, a pretty high price for the specs. There isn’t any information regarding a release date, but since the manual is already online, it shouldn’t take long until we hear something from Samsung. What do you think? Are you excited about this new huge tablet from big Sam, would you buy it? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned for more news.
