Huawei’s flagship Mate 8 phablet was expected to launch back in September during IFA, but Huawei decided to roll out the Mate S smartphone instead. We weren’t even sure if the company plans to release the Mate 8 until the company’s CEO confirmed it a while back. Huawei has already confirmed that the Mate 8 will be announced on November 26th through the official teaser released on Weibo (Chinese social network). That being said, we’ve seen quite a few Mate 8 leaks, and the latest video clip which leaked more or less showed us the whole device.
Well, a new piece of the Mate 8 puzzle has surfaced recently. According to the latest leak, the Mate 8 components cost more than $266. Now, on its own, this doesn’t mean much, but when you consider that the iPhone 6 costs around $220 to make, that puts things into perspective. We knew from the get-go that the Mate 8 won’t be a cheap device, just like its predecessor, but it will surely going to be interesting to see how pricey will it be in the end.
According to the report, the touchscreen is the most expensive Mate 8 component, it costs 550 Yuan ($86). The metallic battery cover will cost Huawei 380 Yuan ($60), while the rear-facing camera costs 180 Yuan ($28). This China-based company will also splash out 50 Yuan ($8) for the front-facing shooter, 20 Yuan ($3) for the charger, and 30 Yuan ($5) for the data cable. There are also expenses for packaging, assembling, etc., which are not included in the aforementioned cost, of course.
Now, according to some previous rumor, the 32GB (3G of RAM) model of the Mate 8 is expected to cost 3,299 Yuan ($517), while the most expensive 128GB (4GB of RAM) variant will allegedly cost 3,899 Yuan ($611). The Huawei Mate 8 is expected to ship with a 6-inch fullHD display, 3/4GB of RAM and 32/128GB of internal storage. Huawei’s newly announced Kirin 950 64-bit octa-core SoC will fuel this phablet, and a 16/21-megapixel camera will be available on the back of the device. The rear-facing fingerprint scanner will also be a part of this package, and the phablet will be made out of metal. The GFXBench listing said that Android Marshmallow will come pre-installed, though Android Lollipop is also a possibility here. Either way, Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) will come installed on top of Google’s OS.
