The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi might be better known internationally for making smartphones, but in China, they have a wide portfolio of consumer electronics ranging from air purifiers to smart home kits. They have also released a few smart TVs since 2013 as part of their Mi TV lineup, they have recently released a 60-inch 4K TV and now they have announced the latest addition to the Mi TV 3 series.
Xiaomi usually partners with some other manufacturers to provide the components of the TV and the company integrates them into their designs, the new Mi TV 3 model features a 70-inch display with 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution made by Sharp. While the 60-inch model featured a very slim aluminum frame measuring 11.6 mm at its thinnest, the new 70-inch model is still very slim at 12.9 mm in its thinnest point and 38.6 mm at its thickest, the frame is made from an aluminum alloy. To achieve this, Xiaomi separates some components from the display, so an aluminum-built soundbar is included featuring 6 speakers with two dome tweeters and four 2.5-inch woofers. The soundbar also integrates the motherboard and all the ports as well, it is connected to the display using a single Mi Cable.
The 70-inch panel features a 178° viewing angle, the 120 Hz refresh rate along with the 6 ms dynamic response time should make videos or games look quite smooth. The contrast ratio on this panel is 4000:1 and there’s over 85% NTSC color gamut. Powering up the TV is a quad-core MStar 6A928 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz featuring a Cortex-A17 architecture and Mali-760 MP4 GPU. There are 2 GB of DDR3 triple-channel RAM and 8 GB (eMMC 5.0) of internal storage. The TV runs on Xiaomi’s MIUI TV on top of Android 5.1. There’s dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity. The TV includes a Mi Port, 3 HDMI (2.0) ports, AV, VGA, and two USB ports (one with USB 2.0 and the other supports USB 3.0) and it supports various video formats including H.265 4K at 60 or 30 fps. The stereo speakers feature acoustic wavelength technology and there’s support for DTS Virtual Surround Sound. The 70-inch Mi TV 3 is priced at 9,999 Yuan (around $1540) and it will be available in China soon.
