Xiaomi Enters The Film Industry, Screenwriting In Focus

Xiaomi is quite a versatile company. This China-based company is first and foremost a smartphone manufacturer, but they have released quite a few different devices in the last couple of years. The company has manufactured tablets, smart TVs, fitness trackers, air filter, security camera, action camera, and on top of all that, they’re also a software developer, and a MVNO. That being said, it seems like Xiaomi will expand their area of expertise even more, and this development might surprise you, read on.

Xiaomi has partnered up with a media group called Huayi Brothers Star, and will start making movies. Yes, you read that right, let me explain. Xiaomi will actually focus on screenwriting and development of talent. ”We want to promote screenwriting, and the significance of screenwriters to film projects,” said Tian Yusheng, the co-founder of the aforementioned media company. Now, here’s a fact that you might not know, China’s film industry is actually booming at the moment, so it’s not exactly that odd Xiaomi took this step. That Asian country has managed to earn over 40 billion Yuan ($6.1 billion) in box office sales last year, which basically obliterated the previous record.

Even though China’s film industry is on the rise, Xiaomi is a tech company, and a tech gadget manufacturers before anything else, so this is rather interesting. It is going to be interesting to see what happens next, that’s for sure. Anyhow, Xiaomi has officially announced that they’ve managed to sell 70 million handsets last year, which means the company fell short of their 80 million sales target. These are not bad news for them though, Xiaomi still beat their record from 2014, when they managed to sell 61 million smartphones. The company is expected to unveil their new flagship, the Mi 5, next month, and judging by a ton of leaks we’ve received, it will be a very well-specced device. Rumors are saying it will sport a 5.2-inch 1080p or QHD display, 3/4GB of RAM and will be fueled by the Snapdragon 820 SoC (the processor has been confirmed). Stay tuned, we’ll report back as soon as new info surfaces.
