Another week has gone by and another week has been full of some pretty exciting Android-related news. One of the most popular devices for the smart home market right now is Amazon’s Alexa-powered smart speaker called the Echo, but it can be a little costly for some at a price of $179.99. This past week, Amazon put out a tutorial that showed you how to build your very own Alexa-powered speaker using a Raspberry pi 2, and it costs under $100 to put together if you have the know-how. Interestingly enough, Google may soon have a smart speaker of their own to offer to consumers, as they were rumored this past week to building one that will rival Amazon’s Echo.
Google is also rumored to be creating a new livestreaming app to compete with Periscope, called YouTube Connect, and they recently updated their Waze navigation app to alert drivers to accidents. Samsung was recently awarded a patent for the folding smartphone, and for the gamers out there, Niantic revealed some more details about the upcoming Pok©mon GO augmented reality game that they’re working on alongside some newly released screenshots. For the movie buffs, Google has cut all movie rentals by up to 75% this past week and the savings offer is available until April 28th.
