Cutting the cord is a term thrown around more commonly these days, giving consumers an alternative to access their favorite TV shows and movies without having to pay for an actual cable company for a TV subscription every single month. Sony’s option, called PlayStation VUE, is a TV service that allows PS4 owners to access a collection of channels including live TV content that you would find in a regular cable package all from their console so long as the PS4 has an internet connection. What’s more, is that Sony has made the service compatible with devices like the Chromecast as long as users are streaming from an iOS device (there is no Android app yet) or from an Amazon Fire TV device.
Up until now, Sony was only offering PlayStation VUE in a small selection of cities around the U.S., and while they haven’t expanded outside of the country yet, today they have just announced that PlayStation VUE will be opening up in 203 more cities around the nation beginning with today. While Sony doesn’t list off any of the locations where VUE has now become available, you can jump to the PS VUE webpage which will alert users to whether or not their location is supported if you allow the browser to find your location, or you can simply type in the zip code where you’ll need or want to access the service.
If the area is supported, users will be able to select from a handful of different packages. In addition to launching new markets where VUE can be accessed, Sony is also launching three new available packages that are only available in these new markets, called the Access Slim, Core Slim, and Elite Slim, all which come with their own varying set of channels at monthly prices of $29.99, $34.99, and $49.99 respectively. On top of that, Sony is offering all three packages a 7-trial for free so consumers are able to check the service out before they commit to it and buy. Aside from offering live TV and on-demand programming, PS VUE also offers a Cloud DVR feature, as well as the ability to stream content to multiple devices simultaneously.
