YunOS-Powered Meizu M3 Gets Certified By TENAA In China

Meizu has introduced their all-new flagship a couple of days ago. The company has actually introduced two new smartphones lately, the Meizu M3 Note, their newest mid-ranger, and the PRO 6, the company’s all-new flagship. That being said, we’ve been wondering when will the Meizu M3 see the light of day, a smaller variant of the Meizu M3 Note. Well, it seems like the device might launch soon, but it seems like this is not the variant we’ve been expecting.

The Meizu M688Q, aka Meizu M3, got certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC) recently. This smartphone fits the bill as far as specifications go, but it has the ‘wrong’ software on it. According to TENAA’s listing, the Meizu M3 will ship with YunOS 3.1.6 out of the box, which is a ROM based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Why is this weird? Well, both the Meizu M1 and M2 shipped with Flyme UI on top of Android, so this is an interesting change. This will not be the first YunOS-powered smartphone Meizu will release though, but it still seems odd there isn’t’ a Flyme version. It is possible that the company plans to release both versions of the Meizu M3 out to the market, which would make far more sense.

Anyhow, according to TENAA’s listing, the Meizu M3 will feature a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB / 32GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card). The device will be fueled by an octa-core processor running at 1.5GHz, and a 2,800mAh battery will also be a part of this package, and it will not be removable. The 13-megapixel snapper will be placed on the back of this device, and a 5-megapixel shooter will be available up front. Android 5.1 Lollipop will come out of the box here, and on top of it, you’ll find YunOS 3.1.6. 4G LTE connectivity will be included here as well, and same can be said for the Hybrid Dual SIM slot. The device will measure 141.5 x 69.5 x 8.3mm, while it will weight 130.69 grams. The phone will be available in Blue, White, Gray, Gold and Pink color variants, and if the rumors are accurate, it will cost 599 Yuan ($92) and 799 Yuan ($123) for the 16GB and 32GB variants, respectively.
