AT&T’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones have begun receiving the May security patches from the carrier, according to reports. However, AT&T is yet to publish a changelog, so there’s no word at the moment if the incoming update brings anything other than the latest security patches, but the update itself is said to be just around 40 MB in size for either device. AT&T subscribers using either of the two handsets are expected to receive their update notification soon enough, in case they haven’t already. Those wanting to manually check for the incoming update should also be able to do so by heading over to ‘Settings’, tapping on ‘About Device’ and choosing the ‘Software Update’ option.
Samsung released its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones earlier this year, and reports seem to indicate that they’ve both been pretty well received by paying consumers worldwide. A recent Kantar WorldPanel study revealed that the two devices together accounted for over 5.8% of all smartphones bought in the U.S. during the first three months of this year, even though their general availability only started in the second week of March. The report also suggested that the two devices are expected to surpass the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus as the best-selling smartphone models in America during the current quarter.
Meanwhile, even as AT&T is rolling out the latest security patches to two of Samsung’s latest and greatest smartphones, the carrier is said to be prepping the launch of yet another premium Samsung device on its network pretty soon. The upcoming handset is said to be an all-new, rugged, weatherproof device called the Galaxy S7 Active, which has been reportedly in the works for some time now. The device is expected to land on AT&T fairly soon and, when it does, it is expected to compete in the niche, but growing market for rugged smartphones with the likes of the recently-announced Dewalt MD501, Kyocera DuraForce XD and a whole host of other such devices announced by companies ranging from American heavy machinery manufacturer Caterpillar to marque British automotive brand, Land Rover.
