Nest Updates App To Allow A Home Screen View Of Live Video

Nest has recently updated their application and introduced a number of new features, including the ability to view live video that’s being recorded by the Nest Cam right on the home screen of your device instead of having to open up the app to access it. This is likely to be a very useful feature to anyone who has the Nest Cam set up and likes having the ability to keep a watchful eye on what the camera sees, of course, it is not the only new change that has been added into the app as of the most recent update.

In addition to home screen viewing of the live video feed from the Nest Cam, the official Nest app also brings in a new feature called ‘Spaces View’ which lets users see all of their Nest connected products in one place. What’s more is that Spaces categorizes each product by the room location of that product, so for example, if you have a Nest thermostat in the living room, Spaces will label it as being in the living room, while it might label the Nest Cam as being in the living room, the den, and perhaps the back patio, or where ever you have them placed.

Grouping your Nest products together by their room location is not all that Spaces View does, as it will also enable itself automatically if you have a Nest Cam hooked up and connected to the app. If you don’t have a Nest Cam in the home, you can still enable Spaces View manually from the app as well, so there’s no need to rush out an buy a Nest Cam just to have the grouping functionality although the experience is likely better if a Nest Cam is connected. If rooms are not labeled, products in those rooms are listed as unassigned until a room is given a name. Nest states that they have also made “several improvements” to the video quality which is likely a huge benefit for anyone that has a Nest Cam in the home. If you have any Nest products in the home you likely already have the app installed, but if you don’t you can find the app through the Play Store button below.
