Pokémon GO, Nintendo’s latest mobile game has finally appeared on the Play Store just yesterday but has unfortunately only appeared in select regions. While that’s not a problem for mobile gamers in the US and Australia, many other Pokémon aficionados ended up being disappointed yesterday after realizing that they can’t get the Nintendo’s latest mobile game from Google Play Store. In case you’re one of them, the good news is that there’s a relatively simple way of getting Pokémon GO on your device. By far the fastest way of playing this title in your officially unsupported region is simply downloading and installing the Pokémon GO APK from APKMirror. Of course, prior to trying to install the APK file, make sure you’ve enabled the “Unknown sources” option by navigating to your device’s Settings > Security menu.
The file is less than 60 MB in size so you probably won’t have to clear any storage space in order to experience the newest Pokémon title. As for the game itself, it was co-developed by the Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, and the San Francisco-based studio Niantic which was founded in 2010 as an internal Google startup but became independent in late summer of last year. Nintendo also didn’t pick it to help develop the location-based Pokémon GO by accident as Niantic already has a lot of experience in the field, having released Field Trip and Ingress—both location-based games—in 2012.
In addition to giving its players the ability to catch Pokémon all over the world, Pokémon GO also features certain gameplay elements of faction warfare and traditional gym battles which fans of the main Pokémon series will already be well-acquainted with. Regardless of that, this is certainly not a classical Pokémon game as it puts a much larger emphasis on players’ geographical location and willingness to move around than previous titles released for Nintendo handheld consoles. Regardless of that, it’s expected that the game will be a large hit, similar to Nintendo’s first app Miitomo which to this date amassed over 10 million downloads. Pokémon GO requires your device to be running Android 4.4 KitKat or newer and doesn’t require any especially powerful hardware, so you’ll likely be able to give it a go regardless of your smartphone of choice.
