A new render has just leaked that is allegedly of the ASUS ZenWatch 3, showing off the rumored round display once more alongside a series of three buttons on the side. While the round display is anything but a major shock at this point, it’s still unconfirmed by ASUS themselves, so any more evidence that points towards the use of a round screen for the watch is always good news for those seeking a smartwatch but also seeking something that stays true to traditional watch styles. With ASUS debuting a round smartwatch this year, they’ll be joining other brands which have made the choice to use a round display over the last couple of years, including Motorola (now Lenovo), Samsung, LG, and even Huawei.
The render is unfortunately not a full picture of the watch design, but instead focuses mostly on the display, its shape and the presence of the three side buttons. You can make out a little bit of the strap, and judging by the render it appears that the ZenWatch 3 may have a leather strap, although it is just a render so it’s tough to tell. Having said that, the strap does appear to be the same as the one seen in the leaked live photos allegedly of the ZenWatch 3 which surfaced online last week. The render also looks to feature a grained leather pattern on the bits of the strap you can see.
While there is no way to know for sure if this render is in fact the final design for the ZenWatch 3, it won’t be long before those details are made public as ASUS is thought to be unveiling the ZenWatch 3 at their IFA event on August 31st. Earlier this week, without mentioning exactly what they have planned, ASUS tweeted out a teaser image that mentions something incredible is coming, accompanied by the August 31st date and an IFA hashtag. If the watch does make an appearance at the trade show, it will be joined by the likes of Samsung’s Gear S3 smartwatch which is also slated for an announcement during the event this year. With a new sleek design it’ll be interesting to see if ASUS can keep the cost down on this model of the watch to stay competitive with other offerings just as they did with the first two models.
