Xiaomi had already introduced quite a few smartphones this year, though they have announced only one high-end handset, the Xiaomi Mi 5. This smartphone was introduced back in February during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, and it seems like two additional premium offerings are coming from Xiaomi. This China-based smartphone manufacturer is expected to introduce the Xiaomi Mi 5s and the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 soon. The company had already scheduled a press conference for September 27th, and judging by recent teasers, the Xiaomi Mi 5s will be introduced during it, which essentially means that the Mi Note 2 might arrive at a later date.
That being said, the Xiaomi Mi 5s rumors and leaks have been popping up for quite some time now. Well, a new rumor just surfaced, and it’s quite an interesting one. According to this rumor, the company might introduce a smaller variant of the Mi 5s, a version which sports a 4-inch display. The rumor also states that the ‘s’ in ‘Mi 5s’ stands for ‘small’, and if this rumor is accurate, we could see both the 5.15-inch and a 4-inch variant of this smartphone introduced on September 27th. Now, to make things more interesting, a phone itself surfaced with this rumor, a 4-inch variant of the Mi 5s. If you take a look at the provided image, you’ll get to see the device itself, and if you take a look at the upper left corner of it, you’ll get to see Xiaomi’s logo, and it’s located in the same place as on the Xiaomi Mi 5. The rumor further states that this handset will ship with NFC and support Xiaomi’s Mi Pay payment system. The home button on this device is somewhat larger (thicker) than the one on the Xiaomi Mi 5, and the 4-inch Mi 5s variant will probably be made out of metal and glass, just like the Xiaomi Mi 5.
Now, if this variant actually exists, chances are it will ship with the same specs (aside from screen and battery pack size) as the regular Xiaomi Mi 5s variant, which means we might know its specs, if the rumors / leaks are accurate, of course. The Xiaomi Mi 5s is expected to ship with the Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core SoC, 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The phone is said to sport Qualcomm’s SenseID, which is the company’s ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The 16-megapixel shooter is said to be located on the back of this smartphone (same sensor as on the Xiaomi Mi 5), and a 3,490mAh battery had been mentioned for the regular Mi 5s variant, the 4-inch model will probably ship with a smaller battery pack.
