Lei Jun Says Xiaomi Mi 5s Is Coming, Shares A Camera Sample

The Xiaomi Mi 5s is one of the company’s upcoming high-end smartphones, as the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is also expected to launch soon. Anyhow, the company had already announced the September 27th press conference, and have teased the arrival of the Xiaomi Mi 5s through a couple of teasers. Xiaomi had first released a teaser containing a huge letter ‘S’, and after that they’ve shared the AnTuTu score of the ‘Xiaomi _s’ smartphone, which also suggested not only that the Mi 5s is on the way, but that it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core SoC (based on the AnTuTu score).

That being said, earlier today, the company had confirmed that the phone will ship with two camera sensors on the back, and even the phone’s pricing leaked. Another rumor surfaced recently suggesting that the Xiaomi Mi 5s might be released sporting a different name, it was said that the device might be called the ‘Xiaomi Mi S’, but that’s not going to happen. The company’s CEO, Lei Jun, has just confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi 5s is coming on September 27th via his official Weibo (Chinese social media site) account, and in addition to that, he has shared the first Xiaomi Mi 5s camera sample. The company’s CEO also mentions that this is the original image, it has not been tampered with, aside from the fact it had been resized. In case you’re wondering, this image was taken near Greenland. The image seems quite crisp and clear, though we really need more images to go in a more in-depth analysis.

Now, if rumors are to be believed, the Xiaomi Mi 5s will sport a 5.15-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, just like the Xiaomi Mi 5. The device is expected to ship with 6GB of RAM, and judging by the latest pricing leak, both 64GB and 256GB storage variants will be available. The more affordable model is said to cost 1,999 Yuan ($300), while the higher-end variant will set you back 2,999 Yuan ($449) if the info is accurate. This smartphone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core processor, that much we know for sure. The Xiaomi Mi 5s will probably be made out of metal and glass, though it is possible Xiaomi may opt for an all-metal build after all. Another thing worth mentioning is that the smaller 4-inch model of this smartphone had been mentioned recently, though we’re not that convinced Xiaomi has any plans to release that variant on September 27th.
