Earlier this week, Sheila Daintith from Great Sankey near Liverpool, UK reported that her 91-year-old mother was saved by a couple of Pokemon GO players after she tried to clean her drive and fell on the ground, unable to get up. Her daughter revealed that Ms. Daintith didn’t have a phone on her and was unable to call for help. Fortunately for her, two Pokemon GO players found her while searching for pocket monsters in the neighborhood, helped her get up and immediately called her daughter who lives just a few minutes away from the scene of the incident. Daintith says that she’s grateful for their help and the fact that her mother was composed enough to recall her number at the time.
She also revealed that the good Samaritans were a father and daughter pair named David and Ellie. The duo even visited the woman the next day to see whether she’s alright and brought her a bunch of flowers. As Daintith reveals, her mother was mostly unharmed and suffered only minor bruises and scratches. It was actually during their second encounter that David and Ellie—who asked the media to not disclose their surname—revealed that they’re not neighbors and were actually just hunting for Pokemon. As Daintith revealed, they actually found some rare pocket monsters they were looking for so this story ended well for everyone involved.
It’s definitely great to hear about Pokemon GO being responsible for some good news after Niantic Labs’ location-based mobile game recently made a lot of headlines for less heartwarming reasons. Among other things, Pokemon GO players have been targeted by armed robbers, shot at while trespassing, and arrested for suspicious behavior in recent months. However, this case from the UK isn’t the only example of the mega-popular mobile game making the world a better place. Besides helping people move more, lose weight, and make friends, the augmented reality mobile game is also making a lot of sheltered dogs happy as an animal shelter in Indiana recently started a quite successful initiative which attracted Pokemon GO players to walk its furry residents while catching pocket monsters.
