Batman: The Telltale Series Now Available On Google Play

Almost five weeks after Telltale initially ported its Batman adventure series to iOS, the game has finally made its way over to the Google Play Store. Yes, Android users had to wait a bit longer for Bruce Wayne’s latest adventure to become available on their devices but the silver lining here is that – it is available for free. Well, the first episode, that is. Still, this officially makes the Android version of Batman: The Telltale Series the cheapest one to play through as the remaining four episodes can be purchased for $17.99, or $4.99 a piece. Note that the series is still ongoing, and only three episodes are currently available, but the rest should come through by early 2017.

Telltale’s take on Batman is mostly independent of any other previous universe as it follows Bruce Wayne during his early years of being a vigilante in a bat costume and deals with some rather heavy subjects and Batman’s internal dilemmas. While not a traditional Batman game, this definitely seems like a must-play title for all fans of DC Comics’ famous superhero. This adventure also has some modest replay value seeing how it allows you to take radically different approaches to certain situations and decide in which way you want Bruce Wayne’s identity crisis to go. It’s hard to explain that choice mechanic in Batman: The Telltale Series without spoiling the story, so the best course of action is to try it for yourself by downloading the first episode for free.

With that said, the game isn’t without its flaws. If you don’t like Telltale’s approach to video game design, your love for Batman probably won’t make you blind to the rather simplistic gameplay and slow story development. In addition to that, developers could have handled the Android port a bit better, to say the least. Namely, the performance of Batman: The Telltale Series is rather spotty and even users running the game on devices equipped with the Snapdragon 821 are reporting frame rate drops and crashes. That situation is even more worrying when you notice that developers actually lowered resolution of the game in the process of porting it to Android. Problems which had led to rather poor initial reviews on the Play Store where the game is currently sitting at only 2.8 stars. Hopefully Telltale introduces some patches in the near future, though some frame rate drops still shouldn’t stop you from downloading episode 1 for free.
