Snapdragon 830 To Be Made By TSMC As Samsung Faces Delays

Qualcomm is the most popular mobile processor manufacturer in the world, and Samsung is the largest smartphone manufacturer on the planet. These two companies have been cooperating for a long time now, Samsung has been utilizing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips in their smartphones for a long, long time now, and even their flagship offerings ship with Snapdragon processors, though the company also sells a different, Exynos-powered (Samsung’s in-house chip) models as well. That being said, the Snapdragon 830 is Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship processor, and we’ve seen some reports claiming that Samsung might manufacture those chips for Qualcomm, and today’s report shares some new info regarding all that, and things don’t exactly look good for Samsung, read on.

According to Economic Daily News, China’s news outlet, Qualcomm is planning to turn to TSMC considering Samsung’s has fallen behind schedule it seems. Samsung was supposed to manufacture the 10nm Snapdragon 830 SoC for Qualcomm, but the company did not stick to the schedule according to the source, and Qualcomm is looking to turn to TSMC in hopes that they’ll be able to get the production back on track. Now, as a side note, Samsung had announced the other day that they’ve started manufacturing 10nm processors, and are the first company that has managed to achieve that. Now, in addition to this report, an additional source from Economic Daily News claims that the production delay is based on the fact that Android smartphone manufacturers still did not receive a sample of the said processor, and they need to thoroughly test it before they start including it into devices.

Now, presuming this report is accurate, Qualcomm’s actions seem justified. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 830 shipments / sales will suffer if they don’t receive enough chips in time, and that could hurt the company quite a bit. Now we still don’t know if this report is legit, however, so take this info with a grain of salt as we’re waiting to get more info, if the report is accurate, we’re sure that some additional information will leak in the coming weeks, maybe even days. In any case, this will be yet another huge hit for Samsung, if the info is accurate, of course.
