Video: Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Hands On

Xiaomi has had a pretty incredible month, with the unveiling of not just the Xiaomi Mi MIX, a phone with almost no bezels at all, but the Mi Note 2 as well.  Falling behind the Mi MIX in terms of overall buzz, the Mi Note 2 is equally as special of a phone, debuting as Xiaomi’s first phone with dual curved edges to its 5.7-inch QuadHD OLED panel on the front.  Notably the phone also features a glass back with dual curved edges, which are identical to the front.  If this design sounds familiar, there’s a very good reason for that.  The recently canceled Samsung Galaxy Note 7 also features a near-identical design, but one of the biggest differences here comes in the physical size of the unit.

While Samsung pushed the possibilities of what could be engineered to fit inside such an insanely slim chassis, which was actually less narrow than the original Galaxy Note despite having a screen that’s half an inch larger.  Xiaomi has relaxed the fitting 3mm in an attempt to make such a design work better, but while the device is 3mm wider than the Galaxy Note 7, it’s not a huge device by any modern smartphone measure.  The dual curved edges help bring about a more beautiful aesthetic to what otherwise would look like an enlarged Xiaomi Mi 5, the flagship Xiaomi released upon the world earlier this summer.

Of course the Mi Note 2’s specs are cream of the crop, sporting the same Snapdragon 821 you’ll find in the Google Pixel, one of the more expensive phones you can get this Autumn.  Aside from that you’ll find a 22-megapixel camera on the back, a 4,070mAh battery inside, and a choice of 4GB RAM and 64GB storage for 2799 Yuan ($413), or 6GB RAM and 128GB storage for 3299 Yuan ($413).  Those looking for a version with global cell bands will find 3499 Yuan ($516) gets them a model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage as well.  What did we think of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2?  Find out in our hands on below, and don’t forget to check out our Xiaomi Mi MIX hands on as well!
