There are a number of great flagship smartphones currently available out in the market, and many people would say that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are amongst the best ones. The company’s flagship smartphones have been selling really well ever since they launched back in Q1 this year, and the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco might even help the company sell more Galaxy S7 smartphones than they originally planned. Having that in mind, the Galaxy S8 is due to arrive in the first quarter next year, probably during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, and we have been seeing various rumors and leaks in the last couple of weeks.
Rumors are claiming that the company plans to introduce several variants of the Galaxy S8, including 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch models, which is quite interesting. In addition to that, a recent rumor suggested that the phone will ship without a 3.5mm headphone jack, and that the phone will feature a QHD (2560 x 1440) display. Now, a new report surfaced on Bloomberg earlier today, and if the provided info is to be believed, the Galaxy S8 will be the first ‘all-screen’ smartphone from Samsung, meaning that it will essentially be bezel-less, or very close to that. “The new phones will only come with wraparound displays using organic light-emitting diode technology,” sources said. In addition to that, the source mentions that the phone will launch without a physical home button, and relies on ‘people with direct knowledge of the matter’ for such information. Now, Bloomberg’s sources also said that the phone could launch later than we expect it to, the Galaxy S8 launch could be postponed to April, as the company is allegedly implementing ‘tougher testing procedures’ in order to avoid another huge fail following the Galaxy Note 7 catastrophe.
Now, regarding the display size of the Galaxy S8, or should we say display sizes, previous rumors mentioned 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch models, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, but the source offers different info. According to the new info, the Galaxy S8 variants will actually sport similar display sizes to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, which means we could get a 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch smartphones yet again. Samsung allegedly plans to utilize both the Snapdragon 835 and the all-new Exynos flagship SoC in the Galaxy S8 units, sources said, their distribution will be market-dependent, of course. And last, but not least, it seems like Samsung is planning to include a new digital AI assistant in the Galaxy S8, which is probably why they acquired Viv Labs Inc. earlier this year.
