According to reports coming out of China earlier today, the Xiaomi Mi 6 has reportedly racked up a score of 210,329 on the AnTuTu benchmark. That is quite an achievement, considering its predecessor and Xiaomi’s current flagship, the Mi 5, can only muster around 142,000 points on the popular benchmarking index. The Mi 6 is expected to replace the Mi 5 as Xiaomi’s flagship smartphone this year, but there are conflicting reports on whether the launch will come at the MWC in Barcelona next month or whether Xiaomi will rather wait until April to make it official. Either way, whether the Snapdragon 835 will really bring that much of a performance boost when compared to its predecessor remains to be seen, but seeing as Qualcomm is believed to be eyeing the desktop market with this particular chip, it won’t be too surprising if it does turn out to be a fairly powerful one.
Taking a quick look at some of the rumored tech-specs of the Xiaomi Mi 6, the device is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 835, which was officially announced earlier this week and is expected to power a whole host of devices this year, including Samsung’s much-anticipated offering, the Galaxy S8. The new chipset will come with an integrated octa-core CPU and the Adreno 540 GPU, both of which are said to deliver performances that are much above Qualcomm’s current Snapdragon 820-series chips that power many of today’s most premium and high-performance handsets. The upcoming device is also rumored to come in two different variants – one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and another with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Other rumored specs include dual 12-megapixel cameras on the back and a 4-megapixel secondary camera on the front for selfies and video chats. On the software side of things, the Mi 6 is expected to ship with MIUI 9 running on top of Android 7.1 Nougat, which is certainly good news for potential buyers. Either way, with the futuristic Mi MIX phablet currently making waves in China, Xiaomi will be hoping that the Mi 6 will be able to sustain that momentum and help it regain the top spot on the sales charts in its home country.
