Samsung’s Galaxy Xcover 4 smartphone just appeared on GFXBench bearing the model number SM-G390, the same one that was already revealed in a Wi-Fi Alliance listing last month. The phone in question is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz and 2GB of RAM. GFXBench states that the device sports a 4.8-inch display, though the actual product will likely launch with a 5-inch one boasting a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels. Additionally, the listing reveals how the Galaxy Xcover 4 will feature a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter, as well as 16GB of internal storage. In addition to the quad-core CPU mentioned above, GFXBench reveals that the Galaxy Xcover 4 will feature the Mali-T720 GPU, meaning the device will most likely be fueled by the Samsung-made Exynos 7570 system-on-chip (SoC). Finally, the listing reveals that Samsung’s upcoming smartphone is running Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, presumably with the company’s TouchWiz launcher on top.
Between this leak, the aforementioned certificate from the Wi-Fi Alliance, and the fact that the Galaxy Xcover 4 already appeared on Geekbench yesterday, it seems likely that Samsung’s successor to the Galaxy Xcover 3 is right around the corner. The Geekbench listing corroborates most of the specs revealed by GFXBench and vice versa, so it’s quite possible that this information is legit. While not a flagship by any standard, the Galaxy Xcover 4 is still an improvement over its predecessor which launched almost two years ago. The main selling point of the Galaxy Xcover 3 was its sturdiness and the fact that the phone boasted IP67 certification, meaning it was resistant to both water and dust particles. While many contemporary smartphones are also IP67 certified, not a lot of them put durability over aesthetics, which is why the Galaxy Xcover 4 will likely be a relatively unique device when it hits the market.
There’s still no information on when and where Samsung’s upcoming Android smartphone will launch nor how much it will cost, but more details could likely follow soon seeing how this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) is just around the corner. The South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer already confirmed it won’t unveil the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus at MWC, so the company will likely use the Barcelona-based trade show as an opportunity to show some of its other upcoming devices.
