Virtual reality has become a big topic lately, and so has 360-degree video, which you can watch in virtual reality. Insta360 has a number of products on the market already, and now they have just announced that they are working with Huawei on a new 360-degree camera that will be called the “Honor VR”. This is an add-on for your smartphone, which will allow you to live stream in virtual reality straight from your smartphone. There’s not a whole lot known about the camera just yet, it’s likely that Insta360 and Huawei will officially announce this camera at Mobile World Congress next week in Barcelona though.
Insta360 says that not only did they build the hardware for this camera, but they also worked with Huawei to build the app that works along with this hardware. Insta360 says that the app will allow users to take quick pictures which they can then download and post virtually anywhere (although it’s important to note that not all platforms support 360-degree pictures yet). Making it easier for users to actually use the Honor VR Camera. There hasn’t been a price tag mentioned for this camera just yet, but judging the other products that Insta360 has on the market, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see it go for around $200. It’s also unclear if this add-on will only work with Honor and/or Huawei devices, or if it will be compatible with all Android devices that are on the market.
Huawei will be hosting their own press conference at MWC next week, where they are expected to announce the Huawei P10 and Watch 2. Of course, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see them throw in the Honor VR Camera as well, and talk about it a little bit. Even though they aren’t expected to announce anything on the Honor side of things – which is their e-commerce brand that they like to use to market to “millennials”. We shall find out plenty more about the Honor VR Camera fairly soon, though. It could turn out to be a pretty great camera add-on, especially for those that want to dabble into 360-degree video.
