While Samsung has already announced that the Galaxy S8 won’t be announced at Mobile World Congress later this month, it doesn’t mean that they won’t be teasing it. In fact, a report out of the Korea Herald has noted that the company will be showcasing about a minute-long video teasing the upcoming device, during their press conference which is set for February 26th and will likely announce the Galaxy Tab S3. Now this wouldn’t be the first time that Samsung has done something like this. When they announced the Galaxy Note 5 in 2015 at an event ahead of IFA (where the Galaxy Note devices are typically announced), Samsung showcased a short video about the upcoming Gear S2 smartwatch, that they were unveiling at IFA the following month. Which gave us subtle hints of what to expect.
Many may wonder why Samsung would want to tease the Galaxy S8 at the end of February if it’s not being announced until late March or April. Well, this is to drum up some hype around the device(s). After having a good start to 2016 then a terrible second half of the year, Samsung is looking to pull out all of the stops for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. And teasing the device well ahead of the launch is a good way to do it. Even though we’ve already seen plenty of leaks about the upcoming Galaxy S8, there’s still plenty left to find out, and many leaks could be about earlier prototypes or just plain fake.
Now it’s important that we stress to take this report with a grain of salt. While we won’t know until Samsung’s press conference on the 26th, there is a possibility that Samsung doesn’t tease the device during their press conference. However, with the report coming out of South Korea, Samsung’s home, it’s likely to be true. Even if Samsung doesn’t show it off during their press conference, the device will definitely be there, and shown off to their partners behind the scenes. This is common practice for OEM’s, as they need to “sell” their carrier partners on their upcoming device.
